Meet A Mom: Meet Jen! | Bergen Moms Network

We were so thrilled to catch up with Jen Higgins!  Jen is a Bergen County native, mother of two small children and very cool lifestyle blogger.  We have been following Jen’s blog higgINSPIRED and absolutely love her easy tips, shopping deals, style, trader joes recommendations, clean living/diet inspo, and so much more.  Once we connected with Jen we realized Bergen North Mom site co-owner Annie were soccer buddies when they were kids!  Loved reconnecting with this inspirational, down to earth, and cool momma.

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Bergen County?

I grew up in Waldwick! After attending college in RI and spending a few years in Hoboken, my husband and I moved to Allendale 6 years ago.  I am love being back in Bergen County!

Child(ren) and Age(s)?

I have 2 children.  My daughter Madeleine is 3.5 and my son Maclan is 1.5

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

My go-to interesting fact is that I won a trip to the Bahamas off of my McDonald’s french fries 20 years ago.  On a less exciting note, I love to be creative. My education and work experience were focused on accounting (I am a CPA) and finance, which are not the most creative fields! I love coming up with new inspirations for home décor, arts and crafts for the kids and I love a good bargain hunt.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

My Parents! They still live locally in Waldwick and have been incredibly supportive throughout. We are lucky to have them so close!

Favorite things to do with your kids?

My husband and I love to dine out, and we love sharing that with the kids. It’s fun to see how excited they get over places we frequent like the AB&G (and the popcorn) or the Dunkin’ Donuts in Allendale for munchkins.  Now that it is getting nicer, we love exploring new parks in the area.  The petting zoo at Abma’s Farm in Wyckoff is a favorite!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

After twelve years in the corporate accounting/finance world, I recently decided to pursue a much more challenging career, stay at home mom!  Prior to leaving my job as a Finance Director I started an instagram (@higginspired) and a blog (www.higginspired.com) as a creative outlet.  I had been weighing the decision to stay home for a while and this venture has been a great way to keep my mind stimulated between tending to the kids and the upkeep of our home.  Higginspired is a snapshot into my everyday life as a mom of two young children, pursuing my interests: home decor, entertaining with friends, local activities with the kids, shopping on a budget and once in a while getting to enjoy a quiet meal out with my husband!

In my new role, I have become more focused on my general health and wellness.   I had a great experience completing the 6 week ‘Faster Way to Fat Loss‘ program, which was a catalyst for me to think differently about the way I eat and exercise.  Additionally, I am making baby steps towards a cleaner lifestyle by using and selling the Young Living family of products.  The Young Living brand has had a big impact on the cleaning products we use in our home and my skin care routine.  As a long time sufferer of eczema, it’s been remarkable how much much my skin has improved using clean natural products.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

My recent decision to leave my job and stay home full time was a big life change and I have felt nothing but support from my friends and family in my new role.  Additionally, it has been amazing connecting with local businesses as well as other moms through Higginspired.

Favorite Date Night spot in Bergen County?

Hands down, The Saddle River Inn!  The food is incredible (Chef Jamie is amazing) and the atmosphere is so unique and intimate.  We have celebrated many birthdays and anniversaries there and it is always our first choice for a special occassion.

Favorite Girls Night spot in Bergen County?

One of the things I love about where we live is there are so many great places to try so typically my girlfriends and I set out to go somewhere new.  Some old favorites, however, are Nellie’s Place in Waldwick for Pizza or Allendale Bar & Grill.  These are both places I grew up going to, I swear I only thought there were two restaurants in our area when I was a child.  If we are feeling fancy I love Varka, Felina, St. Eve’s and Fire and Oak but I swear I don’t get out that much haha.
